Clearing out the clutter

I want us to start by visualizing your mind and heart similar to a house. Using this visual, I want to bring us into the space God holds in our lives. Look around. Is there room for God? Where is His placement in your life? Are you busy running around not taking time for God? Sitting in silence stonewalling Him? Do you have the music so loud that you cannot hear His conversation?

We can get so busy and consumed with everything around us and find our thought-life cluttered, every space consumed by the muck and details of life. Our minds can become filled with a multitude of other items, like a hoarder of thoughts and objects from the past and future. Those things can pile up and take over, cluttering our decisions and ideas, looming over us like stress or dread. If we are not careful, we will find ourselves in a place where we no longer see the One who sits across from us on the couch.

Do we even allow Him into our spaces, or does He stand outside while we just peek through the door for a mumbled conversation? I am always amazed at people’s reluctance to allow God into their spaces. I am very aware that fear of pain or change prevent us from giving Him entrance into the deeper parts of ourselves, but at what cost? What could you potentially be missing out on?

Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Ephesians 4:23-24

I look at God as the one who comes in and creates the most amazing spaces!! He does not come in and make things worse, but better. He creates life, peace and love in the places that He inhabits. It’s the warmest and kindest company that you could ever have over, the type of person that you could spend hours with and not even know that time has passed.

I encourage you to take some time today and look at your space. Do you allow room for company to enter into the deeper parts of your life? When was the last time that you asked God to renew your thoughts?
