from Cossondra This is a shot of Conception Street where it meets Dauphin, right outside our building. No, it doesn’t usually look like this. But two weeks ago, a film crew was parked outside, filming a movie about the life of Greg Laurie, who found himself in a revival of the California hippy culture in the early 1970s. He is now pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, one of the largest churches in America. The movie, Jesus Revolution, is scheduled to be released next year. We continued with business as usual, but with a few distractions. Because the crew was set up right outside, we watched scenes be filmed repeatedly, with fascination every time. We heard morning pep talks, shouts of “cut!” and even the crew singing someone happy birthday. However, we had to change our parking, driving, and lunch plans in exchange for our close-up view. I heard a local business owner complain they were boxed in and had no way out. People changed plans about coming to Downtown because they didn’t want to fight the confusion. If this were the hundredth movie filmed outside our building, would we still have been as eager to catch glimpses of the process? Would we have taken the parking challenges in stride? Ignored the words floating up to us? It is easy to overlook things when we are used to them. We may even take things for granted.
