We can’t control what others say, and we can’t make them reveal their thoughts, but we can be aware of what we add to the conversation. Are we reacting with anger? Are we making the situation worse than it needs to be by arguing about something insignificant? How we respond to people says a lot about who we are on the inside.

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger Proverbs 19:11

Often, when we think about “conversation,” we think about talking. Small talk, chatting, shooting the breeze. They all have to do with talking. But, listening is also important in a conversation. The best listeners focus on what the other person is saying without planning their answers at the same time! Have you ever found yourself doing that? I know I have. Let’s both pay attention to that this week, whether we are in conversations with family, friends, or God.

Joanna Snow Ministries is located in Downtown Mobile, Alabama, and we love it!

Our offices are located at the corner of Dauphin and Conception streets in what was originally known as the (second) Spira and Pincus building. The first building, designed by German immigrant Rudolph Benz, burned in 1899 and the owners, Abraham Spira and Abraham Pincus, contracted Benz to design the existing building which was completed in 1900.

The first building had been home to C. J. Gayfer & Co. dry goods and the upper floors by the Fidelia Club. Gayfer’s Department Store occupied all three floors of the new building and had one of the first passenger elevators in Mobile!

The Spira and Pincus Building (now the Inge Building) has seen many occupants and remodels since then, but it still stands more than 100 years later. The two Abrahams didn’t let setbacks stop them, and we are honored to share space with their history here in Downtown.
