Now, while you may think that I should stay away from such places, I argue that a little sweetness can go a long way in lifting a mood. And it doesn’t always have to be, say, hand-poured chocolate Easter bunnies, although those could work. I am talking about our words. Taking a moment to encourage others can be so important. And, it doesn’t always have to be a “things are going to be ok” speech. That isn’t always the best approach anyway. Honestly, some things are not okay. But when people are really struggling, they want to know that you are with them, that you believe in them and support them. And, sometimes instead of saying, “Call me if you need anything” we can say, “Tell me what you need right now” or we can ask, “Do you want me to take out your trash or clean your bathrooms?” When we are down, we need something tangible to hold onto. Something we won’t second guess because we can’t see it. As we go through this week, let’s be mindful of our words. Let’s share some tangible sweetness to people who need their souls and bones healed. Reaching out with kindness is an action that people will remember because it leaves a sweet taste in their mouths.
