Invite Him In from Joanna Have you ever had a friend that you did not speak to in a long time? After so long, maybe you are even embarrassed to reinitiate contact. You may feel guilt or disconnect because you have turned on autopilot in life and missed the connection with someone you really love. So many of our issues in life, such as addiction, anxiety, and loneliness, are from the disconnect of relationship with others and, ultimately, relationship with the Lord. He is the first that we were made to connect with. We often keep our distance because we do not know what we are missing, and we may not even understand what a deep relationship is like. The church even has taught that we should be afraid of God and approach Him with formality. But as we look at the Psalms, David had no formality! He spoke directly from his heart both the raw and the beautiful. I encourage you to take some time to read through the Psalms. Ponder the words that He said and see if you can find yourself in them. Look at how David spoke in his humanity and with vulnerability. David brings this to His time of prayer and praise with the Lord, holding nothing back. In following David’s example, I encourage you to invite God into your day and your moments. Start the conversation wherever you are. You will be amazed as it changes your perspective about life and allows you to see evidence of Him all around you. Converse with him in the middle of the celebrations, the confusing moments, the painful darkness. He is always listening. He is always there. And He always desires to connect with you. You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11
