Leaning on the Arts

As we look around, we are often reminded that even though we are IN this world, we are not to be OF this world. There is so much to bring us down. The news is depressing, our people are ailing, and prices are rising. So is there anything in this world that will help us to rise above the muck and mire? Yes. We can find encouragement in many things, including songs, literature, and movies. All of the “entertainment world” isn’t fallen. There are some excellent options out there that we can use to help us navigate our earthly paths. God’s Word is our ultimate resource, but don’t neglect the offerings of talented Christians who lift Him up, and lift us up, too.

Oh sing unto Jehovah a new song:
Sing unto Jehovah, all the earth.

Sing unto Jehovah, bless his name;
Show forth his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the nations,
His marvellous works among all the peoples.

For great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised:

I am always excited when a new Maverick City Music album drops! But I will admit that I am a little stuck on one of the songs right now. That’s “Jireh.” It was written by Chris Brown, Steven Furtick, Chandler Moore, and Naomi Raine. In Genesis 22, Abraham gives God the name Jehovah Jireh after God provides a ram in the bushes as a substitute sacrifice for Isaac. “Jireh” means “the Lord will provide.” I have had it on repeat, and it will probably stay that way for quite a while! It is a reminder of God’s promises and a declaration that He will provide in our circumstances.

Biggest takeaway: This is Mason’s process and journey, stepping out in faith, when he moved to the States. Each chapter is like a devotion. I haven’t read it every day, but when I’ve read it, it has been on target. It comes from the heart of a business person, and these lessons on leadership and decision making have made an impact on me as I am running my own business and starting a ministry.

Who should read this book? This is a great book for people in business or ministry leadership. Anyone who is making a big change or who is stepping out would find a lot of wisdom from this author.
